The Economist: But competence is worthless without direction and, frankly, character. Would that Candidate Romney had indeed presented himself as a solid chief executive who got things done. Instead he has appeared as a fawning PR man, apparently willing to do or say just about anything to get elected.

Despite its fiscally conservative leanings, it sounds like The Economist knows who it’s not endorsing for president this election.

Welfare without work erodes the spirit and the sense of self-worth of the recipient. And it conditions the children of nonworking parents to an indolent and unproductive life. Hardworking parents raise hardworking kids; we should recognize that the opposite is also true. The influence of the work habits of our parents and other adults around us as we grow up has lasting impact.

Mit Romney

Despite calling his wife Ann the hardest working women he knows for raising their children as a stay at home mom, he thinks women on welfare doing the same thing are indolent and unproductive.

But maybe he’s right. Maybe being a stay at home mom is a lot harder with millions of dollars than it is for the poorest Americans.
